Community Education and Clinical Training
We offer periodic in-service sessions at the Our Kids main location. Topics addressed include:
- Signs and symptoms of child sexual and physical abuse
- How to respond when a child discloses abuse
- Mandated reporting requirements
- Suggestions for talking with children
- Safety issues
Audiences for our presentations include primary care providers, emergency department staff, judges, investigators and defense attorneys.
All educational sessions can be tailored to meet a group's specific needs with respect to the program's content and duration. For instance, upper-level health care students may rotate through our clinic for one week or up to a semester.
We offer a week-long course for nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians. This course has approved CE hours with The Learning Center at Vanderbilt (ANCC-accredited provider) and Vanderbilt University Medical Center for Category I hours.
In addition, we offer a three-day program for other types of providers (e.g., nurses, social workers, advocates) who work with the medical team in providing forensic and health care services to children.
